Checking Invalid XML Errors using an XML validator

Invalid XML messages can be deciphered by testing the XML file with an XML validator. There is a free validator online at

The validator tool may help pinpoint a problem in the XML file; thus, helping you determine what is needed to generate a valid XML file. Follow the on-screen instructions to upload your XML for testing

A typical invalid XML message in sTToXML may read as:

759. XML Failure. The uploaded XML file is invalid according to the smbxml .dtd specifications.
Error Reason: 'Element content is invalid according to the DTD/Schema....

Deciphering sTToXML Column Names / smbxml XML Elements

Netsuite's smbxml XML User's Guide does an excellent job of explaining the XML elements (fieldnames) for each of the XML tables. The guide is available for download from the sTToXML website. By extension, the explanations also apply to the sTToXML template column names.

sTToXML Pre-populated Templates vs. XML-direct templates

Stonehaven Technoloy uses the XML-direct templates for its data to XML conversions. Granted, the field-names are more cryptic; however, the XML logic and groupings are easily discernible. Additionally, it is much easier to remove unwanted / unneeded columns from the templates and diagnose any problems.

The primary advantage of the pre-populated templates is the column names are easier to comprehend. However, attempting to remove unneeded columns is very problematic.

In the end, our recommendation is to use the "Build a [smbxml] template" option on the sTToXML Template screen. Only the use the Select a Pre-populated Template option if you are very new to sTToXML and XML and you do not plan on removing any of the template's columns.
